Arcade Punk

Hello everyone! I’m an old school gamer playing games dating back to the Atari 2700, NES, and DOS games of the late 80’s and early 90’s. I still have my original childhood NES and SNES in boxes in my basement. I’ve been playing with Rapsberry Pis since the RPi2 and have several 2, 3, and 4 models. I’ve built a few RetroPie boxes using Raspberry Pis over the years, but only included popular consoles from the 80’s and 90’s (NES, SNES, PSX, GB, N64, Sega, etc) as well as DOSBox. I have no experience getting old Arcade games to work.
By trade I’m in IT leadership. I’ve spent my career as a network engineer and I currently lead two teams of 14 network engineers. I hold 8 Cisco certifications. I’m comfortable with just about all aspects of computing and enterprise IT. But coding is my least developed skill 🙂
I recently rented a house in Destin, FL for vacation with my family and my kids fell in love with an arcade machine in the house. I could tell it was a purchased one rather than a home-built machine, but it did include 1000’s of games. And I thought to myself, I can build one of these using a Raspberry Pi 4. And through research I found this site 🙂 I’m glad I found this site and look forward to learning from you fine folks 🙂
My goal is to build an Arcade-Only RetroPie image to run my arcade machine. I am now dreaming of playing the old school Beat ’em Up games like Final Fight, Golden Axe, Simpsons, etc with my kids like I did when I was a child. I also want to stomp my kids in Tekken 3 and Soul Caliber.
