Itâs 19.20 here now so, good evening. As I was born in 1960, my early foray into gaming was on the rudimental Philips Videopac 2000 (Magnavox Odyssey), belonging to an uncle of mine. But in those day it was the bomb as there wasnât much to begin with. The first one I bought myself was a ColecoVision followed by a ZX-80 and then a Commodore VIC-20. âSeriousâ gaming started on a PC (Doom, Wolfenstein , Duke Nukem, etc.). Yes, Iâm an old geezer :-). But Iâve never been a hardcore gamer, Iâm too lazy for that and the most modern console I bought was a Sony PS3 but only to connect it as a Blu-ray player to our TV-set. Iâll skip everything before, after and in between but my main hobby is collecting micro brand dive watches, hence my screenname GoodWatch. Forum dweller since 1999.
Arcade games have always had my interest (as other âretroâ stuff) and after deploying a Pi 3 as a Pi-Hole a year ago I bought another one to put Retropie on. After doing that and installing some ROMs I became curious and found Arcade Punks and the fantastic builds that people put great effort into, to make and distribute. A labour of love.
So here I am, Iâll refrain from asking too many noob questions and will try to find answers on the forum first but boy, do I have some ?

Quote from Ninja UK on August 11, 2018, 10:44 pmAsk away old fella, I reckon your the same age as me ?
Hope the Pi-Hole is working out for you ?
Thank you and yes, I'm an old fella ? I already found out that cheapo Chinese knock-offs of Micro SD cards don't work. So I went ahead and bought a couple of 'real' 128gb cards. But now experience that about 50% of the images one can find here just won't boot. Not in a Pi 3B and not in a Pi 3B+. I've tried forcing HDMI in safe mode through config.txt and other tips but either there is no boot or the image tries to boot but after a few lines of text and warnings just hangs. The images are downloaded using torrents or newsgroups but that doesn't seem to make much difference. What am I doing wrong? The ones that DO boot work like a charm.

Its weird, as my role here in AP is to pretty much test every single image that comes through, and I never (and I mean 1 in a couple of hundred) seem to have a problem booting them, I have both a pi 3b and 3b+ and obviously ensure i am using the correct one for the image, I have a 16gb, 32gb, 64gb, 128gb, and 256gb micro sd card, all are Sandisk, all bought from reputable suppliers and tested.
So I do often think 2 things when people say that a majority of images wont work for them (1) cheap/fake/dodgy card, or, (2) incorrect pi type
When the video in a post is a Arcade Punk video (as seen on the YouTube) this means it has been downloaded from the same source as you would and put in a Pi to be captured.
I know its not much help, just putting in my pence worth

To start with, I know the introduction thread is not for asking questions so I apologise. Perhaps a MOD should move it to the appropriate thread. Actually, your speedy reply did help me out because it made me retrace my steps. I have been so busy with downloading images, burning them and after that popping the card (also bought from a reputable supplier, Samsung and Sandisk, 64gb and 128gb) into either Pi that I must have lost track. Working without method is never a good plan ? So cause #2 (incorrect Pi for the image) must have been the culprit. I just have to make up my mind on what image to use and settle for that one, stick with it and just keep my eyes peeled for updates or an even more suitable image. Thanks again!
