Gday from Australia
Ive been in and out of this hobby since MAME started. (Bloody long time now) I havent had a MAME cab for about 5 years now and I am looking at building a bartop with a PI3. I currently own a Heavy Barrel Cab which is just a standard JAMMA arcade machine. I did have my Heavy Barrel cab running MAME and a few other emulators at one stage but the PC died quite a while ago and I I never got back in to the hobby. I am going to sell my cab.
Now I am back and I am also interested in Virtual Pinball. I am definitely going to build myself a Virtual pinball cabinet. I was thinking of making a Pinball/MAME cabinet thing but I think I will make a dedicated pinball machine and a bartop MAME machine. (I dont have the room for a full size pinball and arcade machine)
I have been away for too long. I have been roaming around the various forums for a month or so and everything is so different now compared to when I last set something up. I have a lot of homework to do.
Any tips to get me started quickly would be much appreciated.
To give you guys an idea my last setup was hyperspin (which I didnt like) with MAME, NEOgeo and Atari games. I think hyperspin was really nice but it was a bit of a pain in the ass to get right.
Before that I was running MAMEWAH, didnt mind that (simple). Before that I ran Advancemenu with Advancemame on a DOS machine (cut back win98).
All of my setups have been arcade machines with 15Kh monitors. This time around I am going to use a monitor.
Wish me luck
PS most of my projects take a while as I am a stingy bastard who like to do things on the cheep/free. I tend to scrounge or buy second hand for items I need for projects like this. This in my opinion is what makes the hobby challenging and fun.

Hey buddy
remember the days!!
Lots of stuff is released now 'loaded' (this means with the roms) – a great new retroarch program has been created this shares the controller settings with most emulators and stuff, so running a front end > retroarch > emulator means only setting the keys once,….
Id check out ATTRACT MODE FOR PC FRONT ENDSÂ Â just to see what you can do with one boot controller set up ?
You'll thank me later, heres a couple I highly advise from the above linked list…

You can of course check out the Hyperspin for PC builds too …
Would strongly suggest getting on usenet for a little bit too, especially whilst grabbing some larger files – link to what the fuck that means
