Hi there,

First of all: I am a complete RPI Noob. 🙂

I have a problem booting this image (as well as Damaso’s 64GB image) – did wirte the image with Raspberry Imager to a 500GB SSD. I do use a Pi4, 4 GB and the retroflag rpi4 case (nespi4) booting from SSD.

(Booting the officioal Retropie Image is working from SD and SSD

The official images from the raspberrypi imager do work from SSD – the downloaded images from here do not boot.

I get a boot error message

start4.elf is not compatible.
A newer software is required.

So unless the image has been created for SSD it wont work off the cuff, unless you make some changes to it
