Hey Everybody,
First time on here. I'm loving the site! I have watched a lot of reviews by Drew Talks for the images that have been uploaded for the Pi. I've been designing my own bartop arcade, and I'm about to start building it, but I wanted to make sure I had a good image for it. I was able to get a 16GB image to work from Level1, however, I have not been able to get any 128GB (I've tried almost all of them), several 64GB, or 32GB images. I went out and bought a new 128GB Sandisk Ultra, as per Drew's recommendation. I figured all I had to do was download the image, transfer to my card, pop it in the Pi3, and Bob's your uncle… Well, I'm still looking for Bob. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong or is possibly wrong with my equipment. Often, I'll see lots of code coming up saying that it's stopping the CPUs, and something about kernel panic, etc. and it just stops. I was excited when I saw the 128GB Virtualman v6.3 image revamped by 2Play, it actually had instructions (and Drew talked about it as well). Things seemed to go smoothly, but then when it was time to unplug the power and plug back in, it came up with something about pblocks, etc., and that was it….another image not working. I'm out of ideas. I don't know if it has something to do with the microSD card people are using to make their images, and it's not identical to mine, or if that even matters, or if there is something about my Pi3 that is wonky. I know that the 128GB card works, as I got that 16GB image from Level1 to work on it and a 16GB card I had. I'd really appreciate some help/ideas.
Let me know if you need more info.

Hi
The standard formatting tools built into Windows are limited, as they only allow partitions up to 32GB to be formatted as FAT32, so to format a 64GB or larger partition as FAT32 you need to use a third-party formatting tool.
FAT32 Format http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co……format.htm
SD Formatter   https://www.sdcard.org/downloa…..rmatter_4/
Run the SD Formatter tool first to ensure that any other partitions on the SD card are deleted. Then run the FAT32 Format (guiformat.exe) tool, ensure you choose the correct drive letter, leave the other options at their default settings, and click "Start".
After this you can proceed to write the image of your choice

Hi RetroGamerz,
Thanks for the tip. I thought exFAT was okay, but since you're telling me this, obviously not. I blew away all my 128GB images to save space (as I joined Arcade Punks) so I could download them from the server. I should have those late tomorrow. I had a 64GB image from Damaso, so I'm loading it, but won't know until the morning if it worked or not. One thing I ran into was the imager. I have 3 sd imagers I'm trying to work with, as Win32DiskImager and SD Imager both gave me redundancy errors about 10s into the img write. I finally gave up on them, and I'm now able to get a program called imageUSB by Passmark Software to work (read about it on some other forum). Do you have any "go to" sd imagers you'd recommend?
**Update – The 64GB Damaso image did not work. I'm leaning more towards the image, as it wouldn't even light up my monitor. Lots of green lights going off on the Pi3, but in the end, that's about it. Waited something like 15 minutes, then gave up. I'm extracting the Wolfanoz MBv6 ComicCrazy 128GB image right now, and will hopefully be able to rip it by noon (EST).

So I am having no luck at all, I formatted as you specified, then used Win32DiskImager to burn the images to my microSD. I downloaded 2 images from Arcade Punks servers, both 128GB. I couldn't get either to work on my Pi3. They both failed at the beginning, the VirualMan didn't get anywhere. You can see the attached pics. I have no idea what to do now. You can take a look at the errors and see if you can figure out what is going on.

Instead of using Win32DiskImager you could try
Etcher           https://etcher.io/
ImageUSB Â Â https://www.osforensics.com/to…..mages.html
and see if they work any better

@ninja
Hi Ninja UK,
Yes, I have followed the Help topic exactly as it says, that's why I'm posting on the forum now, as I've run out of ideas. Is there a way to tell if your SD card is bad? It always formats without an issue, so I'm not sure if there is something else there. As far as I know, there is only 1 version of the Pi3B out there, so I don't think it's that.
**Update – Also, since you're on the official Arcade Punk staff, can you tell me why I can't upload my pictures so I can show you guys my errors I'm getting? The pictures are only around 2-3MB, jpg format. It keeps saying there an internal server error every time I go to submit the picture. When I tried to email "[email protected]", I get it kicked back saying that address doesn't exist. So I have no one to report the error to other than starting with you.
Thanks!

@retrogamerz
I believe Etcher is for Mac, I have a Windows 10 64-bit PC. I used ImageUSB (see one of my previous posts). One thing that's interesting on that one is that you can ask it to verify the burn. It has failed on me a few times, but I'm not sure if that's because I tried to burn a 32GB or 64GB image on a 128GB card, and maybe it's not expecting more room to be there, or maybe it's not the same card as the original person used to make the image…no idea.

Etcher works for Windows,Mac and Linux.I have used it myself on Windows.Are you sure that you have a genuine MicroSD card?Where did you buy it?
You can use any of these software to check your card if it is genuine or not

@RetroGamerz
I bought the card off of Amazon, the seller was SanDisk. It should be legit, but stranger things have happened. I'll check tonight with some of the tools you sent from your link. Thanks!
**Update – maybe you're right, I thought it was sold by SanDisk, but it's sold by some distributor. If you read further down, it says they're for the Chinese market…most people give it 5 stars, but if you read some of the 1-star ratings, they have problems. psc=1
Maybe I got a dud. Funny when you go on Amazon.com, out of the States, this card is sold by Amazon, not some shady distributor.
**Update 2 – Well, good guess RetroGamerz…it's a defective card! I wish I had known that 2 weeks ago. I can't believe how much time and money (lost on my Newsgroup limits), I lost, trying to get this to work… At least we found the culprit. I guess I'll have to go the local store tomorrow to buy a legit one.
Here are the test results for the card using that H2testw. I killed it just before it was done looking at the whole card. I saw enough to know that the thing was garbage….back to Amazon it goes.
