I recently purchased the Asus ROG Arion M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure and a Crucial P5 1TB NVMe drive to put the 1TB image on. I linked the items in a previous thread here:

https://www.arcadepunks.com/arcade-punks-arcade-building-modding-and-gaming-forum/issues-requests-and-reports-1/usb-msd-boot-requires-newer-software-wolfanoz-damaso-nostalgia/

I ran into a new issue once I had imaged the 1TB image using Win32DiskImager. The Rasberry Pi 4 4GB boots to the following screen and then never boots the image:

Anyone have the same issues or any suggestions. I would rather not wait for a long time re imaging over and over as it is a 1TB image lol.

do you have access to another cable, not sure if that enclosure has been tested?

Yes I tried 3 different cables. I went and picked up a samsung evo M.2 NVMe literally 45 minutes ago it is currently loading the 1TB image now. I found that the Crucial P5 did not load even using a known good image I used before the P5 is a solid drive I have been running one in my PC for a while now. The Asus ROG Arion enclosure I believe is a solid piece and worked with a 256GB image on a Toshiba 500GB M.2 drive that I have. I guess if it hasn’t been tested then I could be the tester 🙂

Ok so I just finished loading the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB with the 1TB Wolfanoz image and now it boots to a kernel panic screen.

Probably a long shot, but have you tried plugging it into a different USB port? Like the bottom right one next to the network jack.
Also worth trying a different HDMI port. Have had both result in weird issues booting off a hard drive.

Yeah I used the other HDMI port and tried both USB 3.0 (Blue) ports. Still nothing

The fix for me was to change firmware to “critical” version.

sudo rpi-eeprom-update -d -f /lib/firmware/raspberrypi/bootloader/critical/pieeprom-2020-09-03.bin
