Hello. I'm new to the forum and working with Pi's. I just downloaded the 32gb ultimate v3 image from damaso but when downloaded its not a .img file. I saw a video that says to extract it but when i try to extract there is no option for that, only the option to compress it. Any idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

*Edit* do I have to use a torrent program to download the file? or do I just click the link? I tried just clicking the link, it then takes me to adfly and I download the file. I place it on my desktop but its not an .img file and im not able to extract it using winrar.

Hi, it sounds like the file you downloaded is the .torrent file which would open a torrent download program

Ah that may be it. I tried to open it but it says there is no program to open it with. Do I need to download another program to open the torrent file? Sorry for the noob questions I'm new to all of this. I upgraded my account to a member because it said the members area has a direct download link. Does that mean I can just download the zipped image then flash it to the card?

Ah ok great. Thanks for the quick reply. One other question. I won a raspberry pi 3 model b in a giveaway. It came loaded with a bunch of games and such so I wanted to make a copy of the image. Bought the exact same SD card exact same size. Made a backup of the image but when I tried to flash it to the new card it was just shy of enough space. Any idea as to why that is when its the same brand/size sd card?

Not sure on that one. How did you do the backup?

The way I would do it would be to open win32 disk imager, next to the image file box, click on the folder icon.

Call the file something relevant ending with .img and then click "Write" this will create a carbon copy of the sd card which

you can then flash to the new card
