I have found this webpage indispensible for teaching me how to set up the spinner, trackball, and light guns. It explained why my x and y axis were reversed in gunconf. It explained why my spinner wasn't automatically recognized in AdvMame.
Hopefully it helps others who are new and have issues with their setups.

Offline I looked at my AdvMame 1.4 .cfg, and everything is set to auto:
input_map[p1_trackbally] auto
input_map[p1_dialx] auto
Is that better than
input_map[p1_trackbally] mouse[0,y] mouse[1,y] mouse[2,y]
input_map[p1_dialx] mouse[0,x]
The spinner and trackball don't work, and the lightgun controls are backward.

Offline I'm about to see if someone wants to fix my pi image to set up the control mapping for my buttons, spinner, and trackball. Also the gunconf is still not getting the lightgun to properly calibrate. I can't tell you how many months I've been working on this. I am beyond livid.

Offline I am running AdvanceMame 3.7, and the trackball works fine. The buttons are now mapped. The spinner isn't doing anything. The Aimtrak guns are not configuring right. Anyone want to look at my config files to tell me where I am screwed up?

Offline I wouldnt have a clue what to look for not yet set one up – but really hoping you get this issue resolved, have you tried the official retropie site to ask ?

Offline Ok, the trackball is working. I have installed LR-Mame2003-Plus in hopes that can run Mame .106 and identify the spinner. I will go into the .rc and add in specific mouse application rates (shown above in thread). It SHOULD work.
As for the Aimtrak setup, I'm still at nada. The Gunconf is in Retropie, so it's not an emulator issue. It is still backward in the targeting and not calibrating well. I have done it one gun plugged in at a time -and at least it is recognized when pulling the trigger?
So I'll keep at it. Wish me luck!

I added .106 to Advance Mame folder, which is listed as Light Gun. Can only change from the 3 versions of AdvMame. None of the 3 have spinner move under auto or the paddle/dial settings changed.
Arcade Classics was tried with lr-Mame2003-plus. No spinner offhand, trackball worked. Everything needs mapped for buttons.
I'm so tired at this point. I wish for a perfect image that has spinner, trackball, 20 button cabinet, and aim trak configs to work. Is that too much to ask?

Authors make their own images to suit their own needs and the ones who make to share with all, obviously havent made one yet ?
