I recently bought a PI 4 and a Sandisk Ultra 512gb Micro SD card from Amazon so I could download this image. I’ve tried burning it with Win32DiskImager and Balena etcher and it just refuses to start. I’ve deleted and re-created the partitions on the card and tried starting from a point of FAT32, NTFS and even exFat (which is how the card was formatted when it arrived).
I get as far as the splash video and it just sits on the “Loading” screen and does nothing. I tried it again last night just before I went to bed because I reasoned that it’s clearly a large image so maybe it needs extra time to resize the partitions and load and do what it needs to do.
I got up this morning, a good eight hours later, and there it was – still stuck on the “Loading” screen.
I’d certainly appreciate any clues to get it working!

Looking at the comments section for this image, it appears i’m not the only one having this problem.

While it is booting, do you see something like sda3 showing up.
I had image this on a 1TB drive to check it out, no go.. I have 500gb drives, too small.
I’m thinking that it has a hard time with unused portion and is trying to access that portion.
I image on a 512gb SSD fine.. Reimage it on the sdcard, load up diskgenius and check for empty space. If it has it, increase the big chunk into it.
This is my thinking.. On the 2 1TB drives I had and a 750gb it failed..

Thankyou for that. I might give it a go, although I’ve been building my own Recalbox image over the past few weeks which is working nicely so i might also not want to tempt fate !
