i too am using the exact same set up track nball wise as you are,
i honestly have no idea what romset im using as it was pilfered from a MLP build, but if i can kick the ADD long enough to remember to check i will.
go ahead and try to do the setup on config for the trackball, because i too had dead controls before hand, as well.
now one thing i HAVE NOT done is updated to the latest retropie, as i read there would be conflicts with romsets/naming or something along those lines, so i followed the old adage' “if it aint broke, dont fix it”
