Bonus problem solved!!! Just been on Daphne.
Like a few others I was also getting an annoying Daphne problem where the game wouldn't register left/right movements properly with this encoder. People were advising using the xboxdrv and remapping keys to stick but using my arcade stick in analogue mode now seems to have solved my daphne problem, games are picking up my stick moves nicely!
