I’m having the exact same problem from the exact same series of events. Downloaded using USENET, extracted to root. Settings works fine, but it only allows Console->Castlevania that’s it, no other games. But I can see all the roms lined up in their respective directories.
I was excited when I saw your post as I thought there might be a solution, but alas I see I’m the only one to respond.
