first time builder problems

So far just step by step of what I have tried is to first write RetroPi onto the card, which has worked fine when the card is put into the the Pi. When I then try to write the Image to the card and it finishes, I put it into the Pi and boot it up, but all I get is the RetroPi Configuration upon startup. I have a RP3+ myself and the Image is WDG64, at least what it seemed to save and name itself as.
