I have just finished downloading the Steam Deck 1TB Batocera file. I have unzipped it and have got an image size of 953GB.
If i purchase 1TB Micro SD Card am i right in thinking there will only be around 931GB of space on the card and i will be unable to fit the file onto the card.
Any Help would be appreciated.

…this has been tested with original 1tb Sandisk MicroSD Cards and works, anything else hasn’t been tested, and we have had AT LEAST One report of a non Sandisk 1tb card not having “enough space”.

Hope this is the right place to post this. I need some help figuring out what to do next. I successfully downloaded the torrent, successfully extracted the image file, successfully wrote it onto the Sandisk Ultra 1TB MicroSD card you recommeneded to use. When I put it in the SteamDeck, the OS starts loading and then hangs. Black screen, nothing happening. I’ve left it for 10 or 15 minutes and it does nothing. rn
After this, I used the QBitTorrent client to recheck the file I downloaded (it took hours). Everything checked out fine. I re-extracted it to a different drive on my PC, and it extracted successfully. I then used the Win32DiskImager program you suggested, to write the image again, onto the same MicroSD card, and then, onto a WD 2tb USB SSD. Same thing happens with both. When I choose either one on the boot selection screen, the Linus OS starts loading then hangs, and won’t finish loading anything up. rn
So no errors at all while acquiring, extracting or writing the file (multiple times) but when I try to run it on the steamdeck, it doesn’t finish loading anything. No buttons work. Nothing.rn
If it’s helpful, I have photos I took of the screen where it hangs (loading in verbose mode), both when it loaded from the MicroSD and from the USB SSD. I know I’m not allowed to include links in this message, so I’m not sure how to share them.
Any suggestions of what else I can try? At this point, the only thing I can’t swap out is the steamdeck itself.rn
BTW: Thanks for putting all this together. If I can get this thing working, I’d love to send a donation to whatever you’re working on next.
Edit: Just wanted to add that I tried using the SD card and the USB SSD to boot up a Dell laptop I have laying around, and both worked, loaded the linux OS and started up the Batocera menu. Now I’m REALLY confused about why it doesn’t work on my Steamdeck, but I did find a reddit post of someone having the same problem back in July of last year. (no resolution listed though)

I know a mod didn’t approve my message asking for help yet, but I thought I’d provide an update. I was able to resolve the booting issue, by going to the official Batocera website and downloading their latest stable image (not the one currently in beta). Then flashing the image to a different MicroSD card using Etcher software. Once that was bootable in my steamdeck, I used my PC to plug in both cards via USB card readers, and copied every file in the Batocera Boot partition of the working new card, to overwrite all the files in the non-working 1TB card I got from Arcade Punks. Once I did that, the 1TB card booted up, all menus were there, I just needed to map the buttons and controls properly for them to work with most of the games.
Hope that helps someone else…if the mods approve it. 🙂

One key detail is to get a 1TB SD or NVME with 1024 GB. Not all SD/NVME come with 1024 so before purchasing do your homework.
Currently I flashed a 2TB NVME but awaiting a 1TB “1024” one to arrive to verify if it works.. and will share the info on it.
For me using an NVME 2280 drive + external case with usb c is much cheaper and faster instead of buying the recommended Sandisk 1TB SD. YMMV
BTW: Be aware of the fake 1024’s 1TB cards out there for $15 / $20 /$30

Im not venting, nor hoping to not come across rude, but, but this is all I have seen recently “my torrent client wont download it”, “no seeds”, “winzip wont extract it properly” , “the image wont burn”
This image is almost 1 terrabyte, thats a huge amount of data that these programs just dont handle well, the torrent itself is in larger CHUNKS, if your torrent client is NOT tixati then its just downloading from leachers and not the original seedboxes, switching to Tixati should speed up downloads, due to large chunk sizes.
Its also been archived using rar4, something that winrar themselves created.
It was ripped with win32diskimage and oddly enough writes perfectly with it
The actual post HERE suggest PROVEN WORKING programs and methods, QUOTE:-
Firstly, this is a HUGE download so we recommend using something like TIXATI as your download client – it not only handles large torrent files better than ever but talks better to the more seeded files, thus our seed-boxes (that those pesky ads pay for!).
Secondly this a rar4 archive to save you over 100gb of download, you will need WINRAR to extract it, don’t bitch if your current unarchive utility doesn’t work.
Thirdly this has been tested with original 1tb Sandisk MicroSD Cards and works, anything else hasn’t been tested, and we have had AT LEAST One report of a non Sandisk 1tb card not having “enough space”.
Finally, write this .img to your card using WIN32DISKIMG , this program again we have used and we can vouch for.
At leas try the suggested program, its not affiliates we gain NOTHING suggesting the programs, only sharing our experience of downloading, extracting and writing, the first time perfectly.
