Issue with pi zero and images from the download section

I've tried a few of those images and so far I only managed to have the coin junkie loading correctly. The issue I'm having now is that my USB controllers are not working, I tried 2 different types (a buffalo SNES and a generic 6 buttons controller, both working with other images) , to no avail. Is that a known issue maybe, and there's a way to fix it? Also if anyone knows about a recent download I could use and that has been proved to work on a pi zero, I'm definitely interested.
