monitor source for cocktail build, something larger than 19″

About to start a horizontal / cocktail table build, but I’m having a real hard time finding a 4:3 monitor larger than 19″.  The ones I’ve seen in the 22″-26″ range have been insanely expensive (like >$600).  I’ve got a few questions

1.  If you know of a source for a 4:3 monitor in the 22-26″ range suitable for a cocktail table, let me know.
2.  What should I be looking for in a monitor for a cocktail table?  I obviously want it to be viewable from both ends, but I don’t know what “spec” I need to look for in a monitor to assure that.  Otherwise I’ll just be shooting in the dark until I can actually look at the monitor.
3.  Has anyone had luck using a more standard format monitor (like 16:9) and just modifying the cabinet so it obscures a portion of the monitor at either end?
