Trying to get ANY image to work on a pi400

I have a pi400 that has been sitting on a shelf collecting dust for a while. All images I try fail at either one of the startX.elf is missing or not compatible. I’ve tried creating a new image using the installer and it boots up fine. From what I’ve read here, copying the 8 .elf files to the image that fails should fix the issue. Am I not understanding the fix instructions correctly? I’ve retired from the IT field after +40 years so not a total noob but definitely need help.

im in the same boat as you i have tried many of the google searched tricks for getting them to boot but with no luck. 

im a bit disillusioned on the 1tb images i have downloaded and can not get to boot even following to a t the builds instructions. 

 

is there any documentation that actually address this issue and the correct steps to get the large 256 > images to boot on a pi4/400 

also a boomer IT professional. but still working

Thanks in advance to and instruction or post that can assist in sorting this out.
