We recently sent an email out to all registered users asking for some input on the way presents itself, here is our wording from that email :-
We believe we have a format that works on the site, its information and downloads, with an easy enough to follow download section (yes it has archives and can be sorted by date!). We feel we are missing a few things on the site, and we would love to have YOUR input on what we can do to improve the site and the way its used by yourselves and others.
We feel we could be more “NOOB FRIENDLY” , lets imagine you know nothing about “this scene” and just rocked up from Target with a brand new Pi 4 and you are told “oh yea I seen someone turn it into a retro arcade console” – sure there are loads of YouTube videos out there, but no resource hub, we see people recommend “Punks” all the time, but we dont actually give any real “noob-friendly” help on the site – integrating this and keeping it professional will be a struggle, but we would like to run a few step-by-step clickable how to’s, would love your input on this too!
So WHAT ELSE should we be doing on Arcade Punks that makes it work for you? – please dont start your list of “what not to do” this is purely some positive input required from you in order to help us as a community and Retro Gaming Resource, grow!
We are aware that we have a fair few ads on the site, but they are not “spam ads” and you can safely use the site around them, they don’t obscure your view or open things in other windows/tabs – they are recognised ad supplied ads – these in turn pay for our servers and seedboxes that we supply to groups who host the content shared on Arcade Punks – without the ads things would not be seeding for 90 days (at least) from release, nor pushed up to Usenet for download with near on 10 year retention on some providers.
Here are some of the responses :-
- List of games included in each pack/image
- Remove the adfly free videos – the stigma is gone!
- Landing page redesign
- Keep the dedicated NZB section for usenetters
- Hows Tos and LOTS of them put them in relevant sections
- Add Links directly on article too (download)
- default latest image first on downloads page
- bring back members live chat
- Split down the CoinOps into actual release names, not grouped
- A “Lite” site version
- True Reviews not youtuber lick ass stuff
- More Retro News
- Noobs not understanding the terminology (Such as “image”)
- Tell us what its tested on (i.e. 128gb image burnt to 256gb card)
- More Wii / OG Xbox / Xbox360 / Wii-U
- Wii Modding and images/packs
- Better Search functions
- —MORE TO COME —
(will update as more come in)

Going to reply to some of these very briefly (thoughts/consensus at the moment!)
- List of games included in each pack/image
If the author of the image, or the supplier of the image supplies this list, then we can put this in the description – however we wouldnt want to imply too much that the image actually contains certain copyrighted games from companies that may have a problem with this.
- Remove the adfly free videos – the stigma is gone!
Good Call – on it now!
- Add Links directly on article too (download)
This is a feature we are looking at bringing in for members in 2022
- True Reviews not youtuber lick ass stuff
We tell it like it is, if something is shit , we’ll tell you its shit, but we are also dazzled with cool things – upping our “review” game is something we have spoke about and are looking for a dedicated review person to do this, we still havent decided if this is actually the route we want to go!
- Noobs not understanding the terminology (Such as “image”)
Great call! None of us have ever thought about that – its definitely something that’s just crept to the top of our list! Lots of people have mentioned this!
- Tell us what its tested on (i.e. 128gb image burnt to 256gb card)
We should breakdown on anything recorded ourselves what we have used equipment-wise , good call!
- More Wii / OG Xbox / Xbox360 / Wii-U
Copyrighted ROMs – errrrr no.
- Wii Modding and images/packs
Good Call, we will speak to the SMDEPOT team and see what we can sort out!
- Better Search functions
A text search could be the way forward, something that scans all text on pages and reports back as a valid search, this is something we will look at

Hello. I hope I didn’t miss the boat on this one. Here is what I would like to see changed.
1) Links should be checked and broken links deleted from the page. for example, xbox coinops page is riddled with dead links.
2)The link to download should be on the nfo page. It can be frustrating to click “download from our download page” and have to find he d/l link that sometimes has a different name.
3)Release date beside the game pack on the direct download page so you don’t have to click on the nfo page for details.

Thank you for your input 🙂
Link checking is very difficult as its not direct links to the file, so we couldnt script to ping a file, in effect they are working because if its a torrent or nzb they are live – but may not be seeded or the nzb usenet providor may not still retain it. I guess as a general rule of thumb older stuff should be regarded as lucky if still working…(more on dates in mo!)
The links on the nfo page are something we have thought for a while to bring it, but then it bears the reverse of the problem of finding everything again, it is a feature we intend to test for members only soon.
The date thing is definitely a game changer, and something we should definitely instigate !

The topic starter is simply fucking delusional, get a clue. The members of this site create the content and the owner collecs all the money, fucking sad.
Whats delusional, is that you think that we do this for anything other than fun and not profit, all 3 of the guys involved all have well paid jobs with minimal working hours required – the advertising revenue generated pays for the multitude of seedboxes we use for seeding , membership fees are used to pay for servers and private ftp servers – you think we run on some lame shared hosting?
You dont have to use the site – aside from the trolling, if it hurts that much. Stay woke!

Please keep the NZB Usenet stuff alive for ever on Arcadepunks,it is much important to have backups !!!!!I also read some people have errors with usenet,as mentioned earlier use Quickpar or multipar ! the only way to fix it…!!!!!
So use it !!!!
Ps: also collecting money,mining lol
Yes, without a doubt usenet will be here to stay, NZBs were a big edition to the site when we all realised everyone involved in the site were usenetters !! Something we had previously failed to know we had in common!
Yes 90% of usenet issues are peoples inability to understand (and use) par files, frustrating but this is the “torrent” generation 🙂

NZBs were a major addition to the website when we all realized that everyone participating in the site was a useneter, thus without a doubt, usenet will continue to exist.
Something we had previously been unaware of our shared characteristic!
