Hey Punks,

I’ve created a unique RetroPie Pi3B/3B+ image just for Commodore systems.

I've submitted the download link to Arcade Punks – so hopefully it'll be available soon!

It contains all of the Commodore systems.

Amiga
Amiga 1200
Amiga CD32
C64
C128
CDTV
Plus 4
VIC-20

All systems are using Retroarch so that makes controller setup simple and also lets all systems use bezels.

Custom theme.

Custom loading videos for each system.

Custom boot video.

Custom scripts for background music (it comes with several Amiga mp3 files) and a script for managing the bezels.

All games have been scraped and have either a video or screenshot along with a wheel art.

Youtube link:

Once a Pi 4 RetroPie base is officially made available, I'll be converting this to a Pi 4 compatible image also.

Hm…mine do..

I have two 8BIT-DO wired gamepads plus a USB keyboard and a USB mouse plugged into my Pi 3B+.

All work fine within Amiga games for me.

For example, Dungeons of Avalon 2 .. when launched, my mouse moves the cursor and left clicking starts the game.

Dang it!

There is a glitch in the image.

Amiga (and maybe Amiga 1200 and CDTV) will run slow on some games.

Easy fix though….

Amiga: load any game, open retroarch with select + x , go to options and change CPU Compatibility to normal, close retroarch.  That should save it for next time you run an Amiga game.

Hey Punks!

I’ve now converted my RetroPie Commodore Collection 32GB image over to the newer Pi 4 based OS.

It’s the same as the first Pi3 based image, but this one is built using the latest official beta from RetroPie for the Pi4 boards.

This image has had Pishrink ran against it, so it’ll expand and reboot upon first turning it on.

So hopefully those that have asked for a Pi 4 Commodore image will enjoy it.

I’ve submitted the link to AP – so hopefully it’ll be available soon.

—

P.S. The Pi4 version has the Retroarch Amiga setting already applied that I missed on the Pi3 version.

Thank you for the great work….

I realized that your loadscreens folder is not accessible through the explorer only through FTP.

If I want to add or modify the loadscreens, how can I do it?

I couldn't understand where it reads for each console.

@nightshade4retropie
Is there somewhere I can still download this image of yours that isn’t NZB? The 1fichier link is dead.

I want to try this on the new Raspberry Pi 400 so badly!!!

Thanks in advance for any help/info and for your great work!!!

Sorry, was “away” for a few days. Thanks so much for the quick response! I am downloading via torrent now (ETA ~1hr) and will report back on Pi 400 compatibility ASAP.

That said, if it’s based on RetroPie and the included version of RetroPie is fully up to date then it should work out-of-the-box on the Pi 400.
The only thing I don’t know is if “current RetroPie version” means just retropie itself or if the underlying OS has to be upgraded as well.

Either way, I’ll post my findings here in about an hour or so.

Thank you again soooo much!!!!! 🙂

EDIT: it’s a no-go on the Pi 400. It won’t boot at all. Same SD card boots fine on a standard Pi 4. I’m going to try and update retropie and the underlying OS packages on this SD card using my Pi 4 and put it back in to the Pi 400 to see what happens…

EDIT 2: Updating the underlying OS packages via a Pi 4 and then moving back to the Pi 400 was successful. I have full functionality with this image on the Pi 400.

Side note: on both my Pi 4 and Pi 400 I am getting 1080p in both emulationstation and in-game in retroarch. Not sure why others are stuck at 720p…

To fix I loaded up CONFIG.TXT in Notepad++ and REMOVED the “#” in front of “disable_overscan=1” and saved.

Now it’s full screen.

Hi all. Just wanted to help out anyone who may have a Pi 400 but not a Pi 4 to update the image with. This is a google drive download link for my PiShrunk image after doing a full retropie update (including underlying OS). Nothing was added or removed otherwise aside from me configuring my keyboard and an xbox360 usb controller. Hope this helps someone out. The download is ~13.7GB and is an .img.gz file so it can be burned to SD card from apps like etcher without needing to decompress it first.

I can’t get this to load, as it is booting I do keep seeing these lines: “recover4.elf not found” and also “start4.elf: is not compatible” and “This board requires newer software”. I am using a brand new Raspberry Pi 4, 8GB RAM. I have downloaded twice on 2 separate computers and have tried several different 32G cards and keep getting the same results. Can anyone help?

Sorry for hijacking but I can’t seem to find this answer anywhere and it looks like its being solved here:

I have a Pi400 and found out quite quickly that none of the Pi4 images I’ve downloaded work. I’m assuming it’s because it needs a later version of RetroPie.

The issue is – I download an image and it won’t even boot me into RetroPie for me to update it. I can sometimes, depending on the image, press f4 to go to console, then am lost after that.

So if someone could tell me how to update a Pi4 image to work on a 400 I’d be eternally grateful. I have a pi400 and PC At my disposal. Thanks.

The only way to update an image is to boot into it. If the image isn’t up to date enough to support the Pi 400, your ONLY option is to put it in a Pi 4 and fully update both RetroPie and the underlying OS and then put in the Pi 400.

TL;DR you’re beat unless you have access to a Pi 4 to update it with.

Damn. Shot in the dark – do you happen to want to update a 128GB image so I can use it on my Pi400? It’s the sole reason why I bought it and then found out all these amazing images won’t work. I just want my retro games, and the 128GB images go into later systems which would be so cool.

No promises on how quick I can get it done or how long I can host the updated image… What image do you need updated for your Pi 400?

The answer was right there in the error you got. You need to update the firmware on your Pi4 board. All version of the Pi 4 have had a firmware update available that this newer image takes advantage of to allow booting from SD or USB. You need an SD card with the newest raspian/PiOS on it do do the firmware update. Just google the steps required to update the Pi firmware for USB booting and follow them. Then the image will work fine.
