M.U.G.E.N (also known as Mugen, MUGEN and M.U.G.E.N.) is a freeware 2D fighting game engine designed by Elecbyte. Content is created by the community, and thousands of fighters, both original and from popular fiction, have been created. It is written in C and originally used the Allegro library. The latest versions of the engine now use the SDL library. It once had a beta DOS edition, which our friend Crash has taken and ported to DOSBOX making it usable on the Pi.
First I want to thank Elecbyte for his hard work on the M.U.G.E.N. project.
All directions to get this up and running are located within the mugen folders. I would read, read, and read. I personally have not made a mugen build. I would try mugen 1.0 characters to add first. The only thing I changed was adding the extra.exe file (cwsdpmi.exe) to make it run in dosbox. I have tested this l, and it loads on both the pi and Android (magic dosbox). I will keep testing various versions and different ways to get this to load. Next test is WinMUGEN with my retropie/wine image.
Directions of use: You will need a keyboard for setup. M.U.G.E.N. Beta dosbox file. Just drop the whole unzipped folder “mugen” in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc and launch it by clicking on mugen (mine said mugen beta so I could tell what I was testing).
We had a quick play and can confirm this works a treat, and you really should try the v1.0 characters, anything newer seems to flip you back to the login screen, its important to remember this is AN OLD DOS BETA VERSION, not the LAST PC based M.U.G.E.N (found here) – or – catch the original website (from 2015) on WBM here
