Team ORA have just released version 1.5.1 v1.5.2 of their awesome ORA Base image for the Odroid XU4 – Without a doubt one of the most dedicated Retropie related extension teams we see in existence, these guys have truly SMASHED the barriers of single board computer game play, this latest base image includes the ability to play Sega Saturn, Sega Naomi and Sammy Atomiswave – as well as a few you’ve probably not seen before!!

BUILD YOUR IMAGE

The v1.5.2 ORA Base image contains but a handful of games, it includes a couple of Ports of Doom (1 &2) and a few text based RPG games, but all in all, its safe to say that you need to build your own image, unless of course, you only want it for Doom…….

Like any self-build image, you are going to need to download the BIOS for each emulator that is not already included,  for this new image, you need the DC Bios (Dreamcast) (official wiki) which also controls Naomi and Atomiswave, as well as the Sega Saturn Bios (official wiki).

Then you are going to need to get some ROMS on the image, looking at Saturn, Naomi and Atomiswave only at the moment (we assume you know how to do the rest, based on previous self-builds!), you need to check out the above Wikis to ensure your Roms are in the correct format…

**cheat note** Not got the correct Atomiswave and Naomi Roms ? Word on the street is the recent HyperPie2 Mac Unofficial Atomiswave and Naomi release are perfect formats 😉

For Sega Saturn games there is a great compatibility list here on the devs site, for Atomiswave and Naomi, your pretty much looking at ALMOST complete compatibility – YES – You just read that right! Heres a great Atomiswave games test (grab a cuppa this is a long one!)

OGST SCREEN SUPPORT

Its no secret that Team ORA have had nothing but headache working in OGST Screen support, and its with great surprise that this version 1.5.2 is complete with OGST Screen support. Here is the official Retro Arena YouTube video.

Also included on this image are 2 systems, you may not of heard of or played, the Sharp x1 and the NEC-PC9801 – both showcased in our main video (1st one at the top of this page). Its only a matter of time before a good image creator gets their hands on this and produces a fully loaded image – but dont let that put you off, grab it, grab some ROMS, have a play about, familiarise yourself with this build.

FINAL THOUGHT – Today we have had 3 of us Punks in HQ and have done nothing but play about with this base image, throwing ROMs at it and hitting up some 1 player and 2 player action – there was a recent mention of a version 2 of this image, and this was just a ‘for now’ release – that being said, its probably best to accumulate some holiday time from work, ready for that one 😉
