PART 3 – THE SETUP
STEP 3.A
So you now have a ton of files, with numbers at the end and the utils archive, using winrar (we linked you in part 1 – but heres the link again) – firstly copy them all over to the ROOT of your D: Drive, this means open MY COMPUTER and then double click D: drive and paste the lot in there! (You did make sure you are using the D: drive and renamed it – like we told you to in part 1)
RIGHT CLICK the first file with the extension .part01 and select EXTRACT HERE
You should now see folders called ARCADE, JOYTOKEY and TO INSTALL appearing and lots of files extracting, this will automatically go down through all the other ‘rar parts, such as part02 through to .part16. Unfortunately if there are any errors you may need to download that part again and repeat the process until its error free. Please do let us know if you do keep getting errors even after re-downloading.

STEP 3.B
Now we need you to set a program up that runs every-time you start your windows, this is the program that controls your controllers or arcade cabinet buttons or whatever you are using to play/use Hyperspin, its emulators and games, this is called JOYTOKEY and is configured the following way (NOTE: Do not worry if this does not yet make sense to you – it will make sense eventually!)
To simplify the above for you as an example the letter W means that joystick player one goes right, the letter L presses button 5 on player two joystick, we have set up all our emulators on these packs we are going to release to work with the keyboard, thus configured to the above, so all you need to do is tell your joystick/controller/control panel that each button or action on it turns into one of the above key-presses.
There are hundreds if not thousands of different controllers, so I am going to run through setting up an arcade control panel and also setting up a single Xbox 360 controller to work with these settings – NOTE , I know the Xbox 360 controller has more buttons then are configured above, but our first few packs are going to be no more than 6 player button packs (plus 2 start buttons, a back and enter button) – so as we release more complex packs we will come back to this and set up more buttons (but you wont need to do it, it’ll be part of the pack!).
Its worth noting at this point that this version of our release is for people who are building arcade cabinets and are using USB to BUTTON control panels, but we will make this release playable by anyone, its all the same basic concept – So before we go any further, plug in your controller/joystick or control panel and get that installed and move on to Step 3.c (below)
STEP 3.C
Once you have installed your controller/joystick/control panel, click on JOYTOKEY.EXE and the program will open, you will see a screen very similar to the images above with 3 tabs JOYSTICK 1, JOYSTICK 2 and OPTIONS, click on the OPTIONS tab.
You should see it says xx Joystick is detected (this means it can see your joystick/controllers) – if it shows none , you will need to go back and install your controllers or joysticks and come back when its done.
Now you need to make a bit of a decision choose one of the following from below (and we’ll add to it later dont worry!)
- IF YOU ARE BUILDING A CONTROL PANEL WITH 6 BUTTONS PER PLAYER YOU ARE ALREADY DONE!
- IF YOU ARE USING AN XBOX 360 CONTROLLER THEN CHANGE STICK/POV TO “STICK POV x1 + POV x1“
If you are using any other type of controller, click on one of the joystick tabs and you will see that the corresponding press of the controller for example pressing RIGHT on controller 1 will highlight JOYSTICK 1 – W
DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING IN JOYSTICK 1 or JOYSTICK 2 TABS
OR IT WONT END WELL
Now if you have made changes in options click FILE, then SAVE, then click the X in the top right corner of the window (do not click EXIT in file) – all done properly you will notice the program has minimised down to the bottom right task bar (by your clock) this is now running in the background.
STEP 3.D
You need to know make Joytokey run when windows starts, to do this is simple.
Press the windows key and whilst pressing press R — or if the run box does not pop up — go to your start menu, right click and select RUN
when the box opens up type shell:startup then press OK
A folder will now open, RIGHT click ANYWHERE inside this new folder and NEW > SHORTCUT then browse to D;\joytokey\joytokey.exe
it should give it then name “joytokey” (this is fine) – then click OK You have now set it to run when you run windows.
NOTE: If you are having major problems with setting up your controller, do not fear we will show you at the end how to set up each emulator with your controller, this could end up being easier for you and not having to run JoyToKey.
STEP 3.E
You need to go into the “TO-INSTALL” folder and RIGHT click the font that is there, and then click INSTALL
We are now ready to run Hyperspin, I advise you to make shortcuts to Hyperspin in the root of D – if you watch the video below that summarises all of part 3 you will see I also make shortcuts to ROCKETLAUNCHER and HYPERHQ too.
Are you ready ? Then either (1) click the Shortcut you made to Hyperspin in the root of the directory – or – (2) go into D:\Arcade and double click HYPERSPIN.EXE
YOU ARE DONE!!
Congratulations the hard work is done , honest! You should now have a working arcade front end that looks like this video
