SK Jukebox (Unofficial Mirror)

Arcade Punks Mirror Archive

SK Jukebox Downloads and Arcade Cabinet Music Player Archive

The original SK Jukebox home at spacefractal.com has started failing with 404 errors, and the project was officially retired years ago by its creator, SalmonKing. For a music player this well suited to arcade cabinets, letting it vanish would be a real shame.

So Arcade Punks is stepping in as the download mirror and preservation point. We have gathered the final versions, the runtimes and the support files into one safe place, exactly as the creator invited people to do when he wound the project down. If you want SK Jukebox for your MAME cabinet or custom music build, this is now the page to bookmark.

Why this mirror matters

SK Jukebox was written by SalmonKing after he built a MAME cabinet and wanted a proper way to play MP3s on it. Nothing available met his expectations, so he wrote his own jukebox front end with every feature he wanted, then released it free of charge. It is designed first and foremost for arcade cabinets, with key remapping, full screen mode, album art and credit based play, which makes it ideal for cabinet builds, touchscreen music stations and converted shells.

When SK Jukebox was retired in 2007, the creator explicitly told people they were welcome to mirror the application. Arcade Punks already preserves retro gaming builds, front ends and rare community downloads, so keeping SK Jukebox alive here fits perfectly. This page is built to be the clean, reliable home for the files rather than a scattered upload dump.

About SK Jukebox

After building a MAME cabinet, the creator wanted the option to play MP3s on it. He had a clear set of expectations for the software he would use, but nothing out there met them. So he spent a couple of days writing his own program, one where he could add every feature he wanted.

He then sent it to a few friends to try out. They liked it, raised some requests, and he managed to fulfil almost all of them. Once he felt the program was at a good point, he released it, confident it could suit almost any situation it might be used in. SK Jukebox was always provided free of charge, with only an optional donation link tucked inside the About box for anyone feeling generous.

The original retirement note

When the project closed, SalmonKing left this message for the community:

A lot of you noticed the site had been down for a while. I decided to retire SK Jukebox for good. There were a few factors behind it:

  • Something on the site went wrong and I could not get it back.
  • I no longer had the time or motivation to work on the project.
  • The bill for another year of hosting arrived, and given the above, I chose not to pay it. Anyone who wants to mirror the application is very welcome to do so.

Thanks to all the supporters over the years, especially the few who sent donations. It was a fun ride.
