If you’ve been wanting to build a dedicated PC lightgun setup but have been put off by the amount of emulator configuration, controller mapping, individual game tweaking and general trial and error involved, Silverbullet could be exactly the starting point you’ve been waiting for. Created by MK, Silverbullet is a huge dedicated RetroBat lightgun build containing 326 games spread across 16 different systems and platforms, packaged into one ready-made setup focused almost entirely on getting you pointing, shooting and playing – This isn’t a tiny starter collection either.
The compressed download weighs in at approximately 287GB, expanding to around 386GB once extracted. Inside is a collection spanning classic arcade hardware, Sega systems, Nintendo consoles, PlayStation, TeknoParrot, PC games and more.
Better still, Silverbullet wasn’t developed exclusively on some outrageous high-end gaming PC. MK deliberately built and tested it using comparatively modest hardware, showing that you don’t necessarily need a monster rig to create a seriously capable emulation-based lightgun machine.
Silverbullet brings together 326 games, 16 systems and support for multiple popular lightgun solutions into one enormous RetroBat build.
What Is Silverbullet?
Silverbullet is a customised RetroBat-based lightgun collection created by MK as a personal project and learning experience.
The goal was straightforward: create a dedicated lightgun setup that looks good, is reasonably straightforward to get running and, most importantly, actually lets people play the games without first spending weeks piecing together dozens of emulators and configurations.
Anyone who has experimented with PC lightgun emulation will know why that matters.
A normal arcade collection may only require a frontend, ROMs and controller configuration. Lightgun emulation can introduce another layer of complexity involving gun calibration, mouse input, raw input, borders, emulator-specific controls, fullscreen behaviour, resolutions, crosshairs, reload methods and system-specific quirks.
Silverbullet attempts to give newcomers a substantial head start by bringing much of that groundwork together into one organised RetroBat installation.
MK describes the project as a launch pad rather than claiming it will magically behave identically on every PC and with every gun. PC emulation remains PC emulation, and differences in Windows installations, graphics cards, display configurations and lightgun hardware can still require some tweaking.

In other words, make sure you have plenty of storage available before starting. A drive with comfortably more than 400GB free would be sensible once extraction space, temporary files and future changes are taken into account.
Firstly, who the f**k is MK?
Deep in the lurkiest, most depraved corners of the internet, somewhere between the Manchester City FC forums and a subreddit titled something along the lines of “How do I convince my partner to dress as a cartoon dog during sex?”, there is a place very few people know exists.
Behind a converted garden shed, Past a suspicious collection of stolen VCRs, each one modified in ways no sane engineer would ever approve of, Beyond the home-made vodka still, To the left of several purpose-built, 3D-printed transparent tanks containing what MK insists are “totally normal keepsakes” and absolutely not the fingernails of former girlfriends.
There hangs a vintage curtain.
Pull it back – Welcome to MK’s Lair.
A place where obsolete technology meets modern obsession. Where ancient CRTs sit beside freshly printed brackets, mystery circuit boards hum through the night, cables crawl across every surface, and nobody is entirely sure whether the next thing being built is a lightgun setup, a surveillance system or something that should probably be reported to the council – This is where MK and his accomplice, known only as Scooby_Doo, perform their dark work.
Sometimes they make babies, Sometimes they argue of who they are going to help in their Lightgun Lunatics FaceBook group, Sometimes they make highly questionable modifications to old technology and sometimes, when the moon is right and the Windows drivers behave themselves, they create tactical RetroBat lightgun builds like Silverbullet.
No outsider has ever knowingly entered the Lair, MK’s partner has been inside, obviously, but she has never been permitted to remove the blindfold. Apparently she tried once – Bad girl!
So when you download Silverbullet, just remember: this wasn’t assembled in some shiny software studio by a team of highly trained professionals, It was created in a shed, by MK, behind the curtain.
And frankly, that should concern you almost as much as it excites you.
326 Games Across 16 Systems
The scope of Silverbullet is one of its biggest attractions.
Rather than concentrating exclusively on MAME arcade shooters, MK has incorporated lightgun-compatible and shooting-focused games from a wide range of arcade boards, consoles and PC platforms.
The 16 included systems and platforms are:
- MAME
- Atomiswave
- Naomi
- Sega Model 2
- Sega Model 3
- Nintendo Entertainment System
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System
- Sega Master System
- Sega Mega Drive
- Sega Dreamcast
- PlayStation 1
- PlayStation 2
- Nintendo Wii
- Sega Chihiro
- TeknoParrot
- PC
That mixture gives Silverbullet considerably more variety than a basic arcade-only gun build.
You have the traditional arcade side represented through MAME, Model 2, Model 3, Naomi and Atomiswave, alongside generations of console lightgun gaming and considerably newer arcade and PC titles.
For anyone putting together a dedicated lightgun cabinet, pedestal system, gaming-room PC or large-screen shooting setup, that makes Silverbullet a particularly interesting foundation.
Designed for Lightguns
The entire point of Silverbullet is lightgun gaming, and MK has tested the build using several popular gun platforms.
Confirmed test hardware includes:
- Sinden Lightgun
- Gun4IR
- Blamcon
- Reapers
This doesn’t mean every gun can simply be connected to every PC with absolutely no configuration whatsoever.
Different gun systems have different calibration processes, drivers and operating modes. Your display resolution, number of monitors, Windows scaling settings and USB configuration can also make a difference.
However, having a build that has already been tested with several major lightgun systems gives users a far better starting point than assembling everything individually.
Silverbullet Was Tested on Surprisingly Modest Hardware
One of the most encouraging aspects of the project is the PC MK used while creating and testing it.
The primary Silverbullet development system consisted of:
- Windows 11
- Intel Core i5-9400 @ 2.90GHz
- 16GB RAM
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
That’s hardly an extravagant modern gaming machine.
MK intentionally used fairly modest hardware because lightgun and retro emulation shouldn’t automatically require someone to build an expensive new PC.
Performance was reportedly excellent across the majority of the collection, although a couple of particularly CPU-intensive MAME titles exhibited some slowdown.
As always, emulator performance varies considerably between games. A newer PC won’t hurt, particularly when dealing with TeknoParrot, more demanding arcade platforms and certain emulators, but owners of older systems shouldn’t automatically assume Silverbullet is beyond their hardware.
Before You Download Silverbullet
There is one particularly important point in MK’s original release information regarding antivirus software. Large emulation builds frequently contain scripts, emulator executables, launchers, utilities and modified configuration files. Security software can occasionally identify these as suspicious or remove files automatically.
If security software quarantines something during download or extraction, the resulting Silverbullet installation may be incomplete.
MK recommends configuring an antivirus exclusion for the folder or drive being used for Silverbullet before downloading or extracting the build.
Some users temporarily disable real-time protection during large emulation-build installations, although doing so naturally reduces the protection provided by Windows. A safer approach is generally to use a dedicated exclusion for the specific Silverbullet folder where possible and only obtain files from a source you trust.
Once the build is installed, users can keep their normal protection enabled while retaining the required exclusion if necessary.
How Much Storage Does Silverbullet Need?
This is a big one.
The figures supplied by MK are:
- Download size: 287GB
- Extracted size: approximately 386GB
Don’t look at the 386GB extracted figure and assume a 400GB free partition will necessarily be comfortable.
Depending on how the archive is extracted, you may temporarily need space for both the compressed archive and extracted files.
If you are downloading and extracting onto the same drive, potentially having 700GB or more available during installation would make life substantially easier.
Alternatively, keep the downloaded archive on one drive and extract Silverbullet onto another.
SSD or Hard Drive?
Silverbullet should technically be usable from either, but an SSD is naturally preferable where practical.
An SSD can improve:
- frontend responsiveness
- game loading times
- emulator startup
- artwork loading
- system browsing
- general Windows responsiveness
A large mechanical hard drive remains a perfectly sensible option for users prioritising storage capacity, particularly for a dedicated cabinet where a few additional seconds of loading aren’t a major concern.
Dependencies Are Included – But You Still Have to Install Them
Silverbullet includes a dedicated Dependencies folder.
This contains software that may be required by individual emulators or games.
There’s one obvious but important distinction:
Having the installers inside the Dependencies folder does not mean those dependencies are installed on Windows.
If something required by Silverbullet isn’t already present on your PC, you’ll need to run the appropriate installer.
Missing dependencies can cause symptoms such as:
- games failing to launch
- emulators immediately closing
- DLL errors
- blank windows
- crashes during startup
- specific systems refusing to run while others work correctly
If Silverbullet launches properly but a particular emulator or collection refuses to start, checking the dependency packages should therefore be one of your first troubleshooting steps.
How to Start Silverbullet
Once the complete archive has been downloaded and extracted, open:
Silverbullet/RetroBat/
Then launch:
retrobat.exe
Give RetroBat a few moments to initialise.
You should then arrive at the main Silverbullet frontend where the included systems and games can be browsed.
Basic Silverbullet Controls
MK personally prefers navigating the frontend using an Xbox controller, although other controllers can be configured through RetroBat.
The basic navigation controls are:
- Start: Open menu
- D-pad / Left Stick: Navigate
- A: Enter a system or launch a game
- B: Back / return
- Select + Start: Exit a game
If Select + Start doesn’t exit a particular emulator or title, try pressing Esc on the keyboard.
This should normally return you to the relevant RetroBat system menu.
Five-Button Lightgun Controls
For five-button gun configurations, the basic controls are:
- Select: Coin
- Start: Start
Additional buttons may provide functions such as reload depending on the emulator and game being played.
Three-Button Lightgun Controls
If you’re using a three-button gun, an attached controller or keyboard may be required for some arcade functions.
Typical controls include:
- Controller Select: Coin
- Controller Start: Start
- Keyboard 5: Coin
- Keyboard 1: Start
Depending on the game, the trigger itself may sometimes act as Start.
Some games can also use gun buttons for Coin, Start or Reload, while others support traditional off-screen reload behaviour.
And because this is the wonderful world of emulation, you may occasionally encounter a game that expects Enter to start.
Why Aren’t All 326 Games Using Identical Controls?
Because they come from completely different hardware generations.
Silverbullet spans everything from older consoles to arcade systems and modern PC software. Each emulator can handle gun input differently.
A MAME arcade title may expect a completely different input configuration to a Wii game, PlayStation 2 shooter or TeknoParrot release.
The fundamental Silverbullet controls should get users started, but expecting one universal mapping across every one of the 326 games isn’t realistic.
If you’re completely new to RetroBat, the official RetroBat documentation is well worth reading, particularly its controller, hotkey and input sections.
Coin and Start Problems
If a game appears to run correctly but won’t actually begin, the first thing to establish is whether you’re dealing with an arcade game that requires credits.
Try:
- Gun Select button
- Controller Select
- Keyboard 5 for Coin
- Controller Start
- Keyboard 1 for Start
- Gun trigger
- Keyboard Enter
Not every combination applies to every emulator, but these cover many of the common arrangements found throughout the build.
Reload Behaviour
Lightgun reload systems have never been completely standardised.
Depending on the original game and emulator, reloading may involve:
- shooting away from the screen
- pressing a secondary gun button
- shooting a designated screen area
- automatic reload
- an emulator-specific mapped button
If the trigger fires correctly but reload doesn’t behave as expected, don’t immediately assume your gun calibration is faulty. Check the control mapping for that particular emulator or game first.
The Chihiro Games and the Legendary Legless Guards
Silverbullet includes games based on Sega Chihiro, but there’s an important compatibility warning.
Testing showed graphical behaviour can differ between PCs.
On certain hardware, some enemies and guards exhibited graphical corruption, including the now infamous legless guards.
Other test systems reportedly displayed the same games correctly.
Rather than removing Chihiro completely, MK decided to leave the games in Silverbullet because the underlying games clearly can work properly.
This is therefore one of those areas where graphics drivers, GPU behaviour, emulator settings or another hardware-specific variable may be involved.
If the Arcade Punks or wider lightgun community discovers a configuration that resolves the graphical issues consistently, it could make the Chihiro section even better.
TeknoParrot and PC Games May Need ReShade Borders
Some TeknoParrot and PC games may require additional ReShade border configuration depending on the display and lightgun system being used.
This is particularly relevant to lightguns such as Sinden, where a visible screen border can be an important part of the tracking system.
Display resolution, fullscreen behaviour and the way an individual title renders can determine whether additional border configuration is necessary.
Darren Payne has kindly offered help with this aspect of the build where required.
However, users are specifically asked to keep support questions within the relevant community group rather than sending private messages.
Doing that means any eventual solution remains visible for everyone else experiencing the same problem.
Why Community Support Matters for a Build Like Silverbullet
Silverbullet is essentially the perfect example of why the emulation community works best when fixes are shared publicly.
Imagine someone discovers that a particular graphics option fixes a Chihiro rendering issue on Nvidia hardware.
If that conversation takes place through a private message, one person benefits.
If it takes place publicly, hundreds or potentially thousands of future Silverbullet users can find the answer.
MK therefore asks users with questions, problems or improvements to post them in the community rather than sending private messages.
Silverbullet was created in MK’s spare time around work and family commitments rather than as a commercial support product, so community troubleshooting is very much part of the idea.
Silverbullet Troubleshooting: Game Won’t Launch
If one particular game refuses to start, work through the basics before changing large amounts of configuration.
1. Check the Dependencies
Make sure the software included in the Dependencies folder has actually been installed where required.
2. Check Antivirus Quarantine
Security software may have removed or quarantined an emulator executable, script or supporting file.
Check your antivirus history rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same emulator.
3. Test Another Game From the Same System
This quickly tells you whether you’re dealing with:
- a single-game problem
- an emulator-wide problem
- a controller problem
- a missing dependency
4. Try Running RetroBat Normally
Avoid randomly changing Windows compatibility settings unless you know they’re required.
5. Check Your GPU Drivers
Older or broken graphics drivers can cause rendering and emulator problems, particularly on newer arcade systems.
Silverbullet Troubleshooting: Gun Moves but Won’t Shoot
If your pointer or crosshair moves but the trigger does nothing, that generally suggests calibration itself may not be the main problem.
Check:
- the gun’s trigger button mapping
- RetroBat controller configuration
- the individual emulator’s input settings
- whether the emulator expects mouse button input
- whether another connected controller has taken Player 1 priority
USB device order can occasionally change between Windows boots, particularly when many arcade controls are connected.
Silverbullet Troubleshooting: Aim Is Inaccurate
If shots register but aren’t landing where you’re aiming, recalibrate the gun before changing game settings.
Also check:
- Windows display scaling
- screen resolution
- multi-monitor configuration
- fullscreen versus windowed mode
- the correct display being selected as primary
- gun-specific calibration software
Running Windows at unusual scaling percentages can sometimes produce unexpected behaviour in older emulators.
Silverbullet Troubleshooting: Game Runs Slowly
MK’s i5-9400 and GTX 1050 Ti test machine handled the collection extremely well overall, but that doesn’t guarantee every title will perform identically on every PC.
Older MAME games aren’t always easy to emulate simply because they look old. Certain arcade machines rely heavily on CPU emulation and can actually be more demanding than expected.
If a particular game struggles:
- close unnecessary background applications
- check CPU usage
- check whether your PC is using the dedicated GPU
- check emulator resolution settings
- avoid immediately enabling heavy shaders
- test the game before changing global RetroBat settings
Don’t Start Tweaking Everything Immediately
This is probably one of the most important tips for any preconfigured emulation build.
Get Silverbullet working before you start customising it.
Changing emulator versions, controller drivers, configuration files, RetroBat settings and shaders simultaneously makes troubleshooting dramatically harder.
If something subsequently breaks, you’ll have no idea which change caused it.
Instead:
- Extract Silverbullet.
- Install any required dependencies.
- Launch RetroBat.
- Configure your gun.
- Test several systems.
- Confirm everything is broadly working.
- Only then begin personalising the build.
Keep a Clean Backup
MK strongly recommends keeping a clean copy of Silverbullet if you have enough storage available.
We completely agree.
Once you’ve got a complicated emulation build working properly, having an untouched backup can save an enormous amount of time.
If experimentation eventually breaks something, rather than trying to remember dozens of changed settings, you can simply compare against or restore the clean version.
MK has also stated that the original Silverbullet download is expected to remain available on MEGA for the foreseeable future.

A Serious Starting Point for a Dedicated Lightgun Machine
Silverbullet isn’t claiming to somehow remove every quirk associated with PC emulation.
No build containing 326 games across 16 completely different platforms realistically could.
What MK has done instead is arguably much more useful: put together an enormous working foundation from which lightgun newcomers and experienced cabinet builders alike can start.
You’ve got MAME. You’ve got Naomi. You’ve got Model 2 and Model 3. You’ve got Dreamcast, PlayStation, Wii, Chihiro, TeknoParrot and PC titles. You’ve got support tested across Sinden, Gun4IR, Blamcon and Reapers hardware.
And rather than requiring some £2,000 gaming monster, the build was developed around an i5-9400 and GTX 1050 Ti.
For lightgun fans, that’s a pretty compelling combination.
