WOLFANOZ is back, and this one is an absolute beast – This brand-new 1TB RetroBat front end build has been created with the Xbox Ally X / Ally X Edition and PC users in mind, bringing together a monster collection of retro classics, arcade favourites, pinball goodness, PC ports, light gun action, achievements, scraped media and enough gaming nostalgia to keep you busy for a very, very long time.
We are talking roughly 950GB of retro-loaded goodness, packed with well over 28,000 games, covering arcade, console, handheld, computer, pinball and modern arcade-style systems.
If you have been looking for something huge, polished and handheld-friendly for your Ally X, or your PC, this is one you are going to want to make space for.
The Past Meets The Future
The Xbox Ally X is already proving itself as a seriously capable handheld gaming machine, especially for those who want a powerful Windows-based device that can handle modern PC titles and emulation alike.
But WOLFANOZ asked the important question:
What am I missing for this? Oh yeah, the past.
And that is exactly what this image delivers.
This build started life back in late summer / early autumn 2025 and has been worked into a huge RetroBat-powered setup designed for the Xbox Ally X, Ally X and capable PCs.
It is not just a dump of games thrown into folders. This is a proper front end build with scraped media, configured platforms, controller support across most systems, curated modern console selections, arcade libraries, PC ports, pinball platforms and plenty of extras.
Over 28,000 Games Across A Huge Range Of Systems
This WOLFANOZ RetroBat build includes well over 28,000 games, with most complete arcade and retro libraries included, alongside selected disc-based platforms and modern console “best of” collections.
You can expect a huge mix of:
- Classic arcade systems
- FBNeo and MAME libraries
- Retro console collections
- Handheld classics
- Disc-based systems
- PC ports
- DOS and computer systems
- TeknoParrot modern arcade titles
- Pinball platforms
- RetroAchievements-ready games
- Light gun-friendly content
- Tiger handheld and VSmile categories for the younger retro fans
From old-school arcade cabinets to PlayStation classics, from PC ports to pinball, from modern arcade hitters to weird and wonderful handheld memories, there is a ridiculous amount to explore here.
Built With Controller Play In Mind
One of the big wins here is that most of the build has been set up with controller use in mind.
An Xbox controller is recommended, especially if you are running this on the Xbox Ally X / Ally X Edition, although PlayStation-style controllers can also be used in many areas.
Most systems, including many PC-based libraries and DOS titles, can be played using a controller. Some computer-based systems may still ask for keyboard input from time to time, especially platforms such as:
- BBC Micro
- Sinclair systems
- Tandy CoCo
- Some older PC and computer platforms
That is just the nature of those systems, but for the most part this is a very handheld-friendly build.
PC Ports, Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem & More
The PC ports section is a proper highlight here.
WOLFANOZ has included controller-friendly PC ports, including legends such as:
- Doom
- Quake
- Duke Nukem 3D
Some of these have been enhanced with high-resolution graphics and sound packs, giving them a fresh modern feel while still keeping the soul of the originals intact.
For those of us who grew up on these games, this is the kind of section that can steal hours without you even touching the rest of the build.
Pinball Fans Are In For A Treat
This build is not just about arcade and console gaming. Pinball gets a proper showing too.
WOLFANOZ has packed in pinball across multiple platforms, including both:
- Future Pinball
- Visual Pinball X
Visual Pinball X is widely loved by virtual pinball fans for how close it can feel to the real thing when properly set up, while Future Pinball brings its own flavour with creative tables, movie and TV-style clips, and improving physics thanks to community efforts.
Expect some superb pinball content here, including the kind of tables that make you wish they existed as real machines.
If you have a second monitor and want to go even deeper, you may also want to look into setting up PinUP Popper, which can create a backbox-style experience for Future Pinball and Visual Pinball setups.
This image keeps things more straightforward, but the potential is there for anyone wanting to turn their PC or handheld docked setup into something more cabinet-like.
TeknoParrot, Modern Arcade & “Best Of” Collections
Alongside the classic arcade libraries, this build includes some of the best modern arcade-style experiences through TeknoParrot, along with FBNeo and MAME favourites.
WOLFANOZ has also included a selection of modern console content, from PSX-era favourites through to more recent systems, focusing on personal picks and public “best of” style selections.
To keep the image under 1TB, not everything could be included, but the balance here sounds spot on. You get enough to explore without the image becoming completely unmanageable.
And of course, because this is RetroBat, you can remove anything you do not want and add your own games, media and scraped content later.
RetroAchievements Ready
Achievement hunters are not left out either.
This build includes around 5,000 games scraped and ready for RetroAchievements in their own category.
To use them, simply enable your RetroAchievements account inside the Game Options section, add your login details, and you are ready to go.
It is a brilliant way to revisit older games with a fresh reason to keep playing.
You can create or manage your account over at RetroAchievements.
Netplay Support
Netplay is also available through the Game Options section.
Once enabled and set up with a local account, you can use the relevant button from the main system menu to play compatible games online with others.
As always with netplay, choosing a nearby node is recommended to help keep lag down.
Light Gun Support
Light gun fans should also be happy here.
Sinden light guns in particular should work when plugged in, although some games may need button tweaks or control adjustments depending on your personal setup.
RetroBat makes this easier by allowing you to hold down on a game and access gun and control configuration options.
Important Setup Notes
This is a large build and there are a few things worth knowing before you dive in.
The image is roughly 950GB, leaving a little room for saves and basic use.
WOLFANOZ recommends using a proper quality drive or microSD card. Premium options such as SanDisk Extreme or higher-end Samsung EVO cards are suggested, but you should always check the actual usable capacity before buying.
Some 1TB cards and drives only give you around 931GB usable space, which may not be enough for this image. You need something that can handle around 953GB or more.
Cheap cards and drives are usually not worth the hassle with a build this size.
Install First Folder
Before launching everything, make sure you run through the contents of the INSTALL FIRST folder included with the image.
These prerequisites matter. If you skip them, some emulators, PC ports, pinball platforms or system features may not behave correctly.
After installing the included files, it is also worth rebooting and checking Windows Update.
The RetroBat Wiki is also a great place to check if you need extra help with setup, controls or platform-specific issues.
Virus Scanner Exclusions
Because this is a huge emulation front end with lots of emulators, scripts, launchers and game-related files, your antivirus may occasionally get in the way.
WOLFANOZ recommends adding the drive or folder containing the image to your antivirus exemption list.
No virus alerts were reported during testing with Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, but security tools can sometimes slow down or block emulator-related files simply because of how they behave.
If A Game Does Not Launch
If something does not launch, do not panic.
In most cases, you can hold the relevant button on the game, go into advanced properties, and change the emulator/core being used.
Usually, that solves the issue.
This build has been checked and configured heavily, but with something this big, small hiccups can always happen. We are dealing with thousands upon thousands of games across loads of systems, so a little common sense goes a long way.
Future Pinball / BAM Note
For Future Pinball, you may need to go to:
Emulators → fpinball → BAM
Then right-click:
FPLoader.exe
And run it as Administrator.
This helps Windows give the executable a proper path and can prevent loading issues later.
You may also get a few one-time pop-ups asking for access to the relevant game folders and libraries.
If pinball games refuse to load, WOLFANOZ suggests deleting the contents of the vpinball and fpinball folders inside the emulators folder, but not deleting the folders themselves. RetroBat should then prompt and reinstall what it needs with a network connection.
Scraping & Adding Your Own Games
Scrapers are built into RetroBat, so if you add your own games later, you can scrape artwork, videos and metadata.
You can also create a ScreenScraper account and add your login details for bigger scraping jobs.
If you donate to ScreenScraper, you can unlock more threads, which makes bulk scraping much faster.
A Build With Something For Everyone
This is one of those builds that feels like it has been made by someone who genuinely loves gaming history.
- You have the arcade classics.
- You have console nostalgia.
- You have PC legends.
- You have pinball.
- You have modern arcade picks.
- You have achievements.
- You have light gun support.
- You even have VSmile and Tiger handheld categories for the small kiddies or the big kids who remember them.
It is huge, varied, handheld-friendly and absolutely packed.
WOLFANOZ has once again delivered a proper monster release for retro fans, and this time the Xbox Ally X / Ally X Edition and PC crowd are eating very well.
Final Thoughts
If you have an Xbox Ally X, Ally X Edition or a capable PC and want a massive RetroBat front end build ready to explore, this is a serious release.
At nearly 1TB and with more than 28,000 games, this is not a tiny weekend tinker build. This is a full-on retro archive, arcade playground, pinball corner, PC port hub and handheld nostalgia machine rolled into one.
Huge thanks to WOLFANOZ for another incredible release.
Enjoy the summer, enjoy the games, and as always…
Game on, punks.
