The Team-Encoder Mystery Mod is an easy soft mod for select Arcade 1up countercades. It is a quick flash from your pc over a micro usb cable to enable the countercade to boot from usb, then this image can be used (you can skip the step of imaging the usb drive in the mod instructions if you are going to use this image). Our friend PDubs checks out the mod:-
This will work on any of the Arcade 1up Countercades, Marvel Super Heroes / Mortal Kombat / NBA Jam / TMNT, and you will need to grab the MysteryMSHCC from the official TEAM ENCODER page HERE.
These countercades often go on sale, and with this easy mod it is an inexpensive way to get a decent multicade.

350 hand picked arcade classics (including some bonus surprises) that have been tested on and configured for the Marvel Super Heroes, Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam Arcade 1up countercades.
The Image starts with the All GAMES collection selected so that the curated game collection can be easily accessed from that one list. The FAVORITES COLLECTION is available and games can be easily added and removed as described in the CONTROLS section below.
All games have been scraped for game art. The screen saver starts after 3 minutes of inactivity in the menus and displays a slideshow of random game art. If the P1 Start button is pressed while the slideshow is running, the game that is currently showing will launch. Pressing right on the P1 Joystick while the slideshow is running advances to the next random image.
Games that use two joysticks such as Robotron, Krull, Space Dungeon, Crazy Climber, Cloak and Dagger, Battlezone, Karate Champ, etc are mapped correctly to use both sticks on the countercade.
Some games require a coin in slot 2 for 2 player games, for those games button X or Y has been set as insert coin 2 on the player 2 side (button Y is set if it is a 2 button game, button X is set if it is a 3 button game).
Usage Tips:
1. The .img file can be written to a 16gb (or larger) USB drive using Win32DiskImager, Etcher, or similar software. If using a USB drive larger than 16gb, use a partition manager (like minitool partition wizard free) to expand the file system out to the size of your USB drive.
2. Controls are mapped to use a SNES button mapping:
Top row: Y-X-L1, Bottom row B-A-R1. This is done for maximum compatibility, 6 button arcade games will be
correctly mapped.
NOTE: Controls on the NBA Jam countercade must be remapped, see the guide at the end of this text file.
3. Tapping the volume switch will adjust the volume, but sometimes doesnt work until you have started a game
4. When powering off from the Menu, the cab will restart unless you turn off the power switch
5. Vertical games will be cut off, start the game, open the Retroarch menu, hit A to go to the main menu, go in to Settings > Video > Scaling > Aspect Ratio and set it to 1:1, back out to the Quick Menu, pick Overrides, then select Save Game Overrides to save the fixed scaling setting for the vertical game.
NOTE: This is already done for all of the vert games included in this image.

How to map controls for an NBA Jam countercade:
1. When you first boot the image, the joystick axis will be reversed but are workable to allow you to remap.
2. Hit the Player 1 start button, use the joystick to navigate to “Controller and Bluetooth Settings”, then select “Controller Mapping”, hit a button to get past the notice, then hold down the white button to map p1
3. Input the proper directions for Player 1’s joystick, then map as follows:
Map “Start” to Player 1 start button, “Select” to Player 2 start button
A (Blue button), B (White button) and Y (Red button) – This will give you proper 3 button support for arcade
games. To skip buttons and controls that you don’t have, hold down the White button.
Skip down to “Hotkey” and map that to the Player 2 start button.
4. To map player 2, go into “Controller and Bluetooth Settings”, then select “Controller Mapping”, hit a button to get past the notice, then hold down the Player 2 white button
5. Input the proper directions for Player 2’s joystick, then map as follows: Map “Start” to Player 2 start button, Do not map “Select” or “Hotkey” for Player 2, only map the buttons:
A (Blue button), B (White button) and Y (Red button).
You will recieve a warning about not mapping a Hotkey for Player 2, skip/ignore it – Player 2 start will still function properly as described in the controls section.
Troubleshooting:
1. If when starting a game, it returns to the gameslist with no error, select the game, hit p1 start, select “Game Settings” and then “Update Gamelists” and try the game again.
2. Another way to correct the above, or if a game is loading to to a black screen and not starting, hit p1 start, select “System Settings”, then “Developer”, and then “Redetect All Games Lang/Region”, you may not see any feedback, but when you back out of the menu the system will restart and the issue should be fixed.
3. Game performance can sometimes be improved by opening the Retroarch menu in game, go in to video settings, and toggle “Threaded Video” off or on.
