NEVER FORGET YOUR ROOTS – 2 of us Arcade Punks got into this whole scene because of our love for Arcade Games, ,me personally I had an old Sega MegaTech that the motherboard stopped working on (as I collected it to purchase!) – So I wanted to recreate a full size arcade within the same shell and components, (I documented the project here) – another one of the Punks converted an old cheap 2 player Pandora system over, but in ANY conversion if you are keeping the original tube CRT monitor then you need to remember you are running 15khz and not a latest greatest HD 1080P/4K LCD/LED monitor and in using the original hardware its going to look better than the reproduction originals.  Finding a loaded PC build that you can simply “swap out” into a CRT enabled cab is difficult at the best of the time, unless you consider this absolute BEAST, the RGB-F15 Arcade Flow project, a complete pre-compiled self booting ubuntu based image with Attract Mode and the Arcade Flow layout.

Now this was not about when I made my Sega MegaTech conversion cabinet, but if it was, who knows, I may still have it to this very day !

FROM THE AUTHOR:

This is a project, thinking about those classic games, from arcades. Its objective is to work in an arcade cabinet although it can be enjoyed on a domestic TV.
RGB-F15 is a complete system:
-Base is Ubuntu 22.04 (rgbuntu)
-The frontend is attract mode with Arcade Flow layout
– Emulators and frontend in their latest versions, or in those where they work optimally.
There are a total of more than 6400 games curated, tested and configured ready to be released.

REQUIREMENTS:
-A TV or tube monitor, at 15 khz. The more inches the better.
-A computer:
Processor:
Better to choose Intel than AMD for its best performance per core, an Intel i5 from the fourth generation onwards.
Graphic card:
IMPORTANT: Look for a graph with VULKAN support
Amd, of CGN 1 architecture, one of these lists, better with PCIex16:
PCIe 3.0×16 BUS card list
PCIe 3.0×8 BUS card list
More information can be found on this website:
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/
Recommendation of a graph in value for money:
AMD Radeon HD 7850
Memory:
Memory RAM ddr3 or ddr4 with 2 gbs are sufficient. Recommendation of 4 gbs or more
Hard Drive or SSD:
A single disk: an SSD or mechanical disk, the capacity will depend on the packs that are installed in the system. From 120 gbs up to 1 tb, or more.
Two discs:
A disk for the operating system a 120 gbs ssd
A mechanical disk for storage of roms, 1 tb, or 2 tb.
One or two Xbox 360 controllers compatible with xinput.
It’s compatible withPc Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver:
Black White PC Wireless Controller Gaming USB Receiver Adapter
The equipment in which it is working at 100% to serve as an example:
ASUS H81 Motherboard
Intel i5 4670 processor
Memoria ddr3 4 gbs
Graphics card MSI Radeon hd 7850 1gb
SSD 120 gbs Samsung for the operating system. 2 tb Seagate mechanical disk for rom storage.
This hardware allows to use the vulkan api in the emulators (dolphin, pcsx2,duckstation, flycast, retroarch, wine), allows avx2 to be used on pcsx2. And all with optimal performance.
Will the system work if I do not meet one of these requirements / recommendations?
Yes, as long as the graphics card is AMD or ATI, there are systems that won’t work and there are games that can crash. If the cpu is lower, some emulators may fail.
In these cases it is better to use other options such as batocera.
A VGA-SCART cable to connect the PC to the TV or monitor.
