Retro Racing Lunatics G29 wheel build Addon 1 Is Here

The Retro Racing Lunatics are back on the starting grid with the first add-on pack for the recently dropped G29 Logitech wheel version of the Retro Racing RetroFE Build. This one is RRL-Wheel-Addon 1, a compact but packed console racing expansion that adds another 142 games across 6 classic systems. If you grabbed the base wheel build and wanted even more retro racing action, this is where things start getting even more interesting.

RRL-Wheel-Addon 1 is the first add-on for the Retro Racing Lunatics G29 wheel build, adding a selection of classic racing titles from the Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis and NEC TurboGrafx-16.

The add-on comes in at around 6GB unzipped, making it a much smaller download than the main build, but it still adds a serious chunk of retro racing history to the setup.

Systems Included

This add-on expands the build with racing games from six classic console systems:

• Atari 2600
• Nintendo Entertainment System
• Super Nintendo Entertainment System
• NEC TurboGrafx-16
• Sega Master System
• Sega Genesis

Each system uses its own emulator setup through the latest version of RetroArch, so these can also be added to your own build if you want to tinker and customise things further.

How To Install RRL-Wheel-Addon 1

Installation is nice and simple. Unzip the add-on and extract it directly into the RetroFE root folder, then allow it to overwrite when prompted.

As always, make sure you are extracting to the correct folder before allowing files to overwrite. This add-on is designed to slot into the existing Retro Racing Lunatics wheel build structure.

Important Gameplay Notes

Because these are classic console racing games being played through a wheel-focused build, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Most games play great, but a few can feel quite tight when steering. If a game feels too twitchy or awkward with the wheel, you can also use the D-pad on the wheel to steer instead.

Some games also feature auto acceleration. This is not a fault with the build; it is simply how certain games were originally designed on their respective platforms. Examples include Pole Position on the Atari 2600 and RoadBlasters on the Sega Genesis.

A Perfect First Add-On For The RRL Wheel Build

RRL-Wheel-Addon 1 is a great first expansion for the Retro Racing Lunatics RetroFE wheel build. It keeps the racing theme locked in, adds a stack of classic console racers, and gives G29 users even more games to mess around with.

Not every classic console racer was designed with a wheel in mind, so expect the odd title to feel a bit sharp, sensitive or unusual. That said, the option to use the wheel’s D-pad for steering gives you a nice fallback for the games that do not quite suit analogue wheel input.

For anyone already running the base Retro Racing Lunatics G29 build, this is an easy add-on to install and a nice way to bulk out the collection with classic 8-bit and 16-bit racing goodness.
