On the tram the other day I noticed the pay screen was running CoinOps, well it may as well be as it seems right now EVERYTHING can run CoinOps, this right here is a SELF BOOTING LINUX COINOPS BUILD based on RetroArcade Elites release originally by the CoinOps Guru BritneysPairs, and then ported by AndyBurns back in July of 2021. The video below shows the alpha build showcased by BP himself.

CoinOPS Linux RetroARCADE Elites v1.1

The image will AUTO-EXPAND the partition on first boot to fill the disk.
It will then REBOOT, and launch a SOUND CONFIGURATION screen.
Right click on the desktop and choose TEST SOUND, and EXIT when happy.
This is a compact one-off Linux port of RetroARCADES elites
None of this would be possible without the undying efforts of BritneysPairs, Phulsof, gjsmsmith, Fnord, Xboxiso and many others in the CoinOPS project. YMMV, but please remember this is all free, and written by enthusiasts for the love of the old arcade 🙂
Please provide feedback – development is not possible without it 🙂
The img file inside the rar archive can be written to a 32Gb, or bigger, USB stick with Rufus/Balena Etcher/Win32DiskImager or from inside a linux distro. It has been tested.
It can also be written to SSD, or NVME etc.
Hint – Use a very good quality USB3.0/3.1 USB stick, or a SSD/NVME.
I recommend Sandisk Ultra or Pro, Supersonic Rage Elite (not XT!), and SAMSUNG BAR Plus.
This image has been tried on different machines. Fast dual core, or Quad core (min core-i5) with 8G RAM is recommended.
Other systems may well work, so please send feedback. I had it running on a Macbook Air 11in.
This version contains Auto Enter Game, and is enabled by default.
If left to its own devices, retrofe’s attract mode will run the last game for 60sec before exiting.
Attract mode will re-engage in another 60 sec.
Works in any theme.
If any input is detected, i.e. the game is played, it will wait 3min before exiting mame.
Keep playing and it wont exit.
Again, after game exit, attract mode will re-engage as before.
I use a cheapo xbox360 wireless dongle from China. Make sure its plugged in and paired already.
Other xinput devices should work.
If you add a second controller inside a game, you will need to exit and relaunch.
KB/IPAC2 works, but you may need to configure within Mame to suit your requirements.
My Logitech F310s also works OOTB using xinput.
No major testing has been done for other controllers.
