New Doom level released by game creator John Romero
John Romero, one of the developers behind the seminal computer game Doom, has released his first new level for the title in 21 years.
He is offering the new levels totally FREE – It is rumored it was made as a ‘warm-up’ for a new project…
Doom was released in 1993 and had 10 million players by 1995. It has retained a cult popularity, and still has a dedicated community of players who also create their own content – The I.D. Software developer has kept the new level for ‘shareware assets’ – this means you dont even have to own the full paid for game to play it – you can play it on the shareware version too (see shareware versions here).
The ‘knee deep in the dead’ Doom level has been going crazy these past few days, ever since the tweet and Facebook post:-
It’s been 21 years since I made a DOOM level. Here’s my version of E1M8 using DOOM1.WAD. https://t.co/ueKM7gBbXd pic.twitter.com/NlmA9aIALN
