Our inbox pinged this morning with an email from Herman Munster – wait, what??? The guy sent us a torrent and nzb as well as asked us to put a video on YouTube for this very unique Raspberry Pi at well under 3.5gb. Known as the RASPBERRY PI SCARE PORTRAIT, Herman, or Mr Munster explains he wanted to build a framed picture in his corridor of his dorms, but when someone walked by he wanted it to come to life, which is exactly what he proceeded to do….
YOU WILL NEED A PIR FOR YOUR PI THEY COST A COUPLE OF DOLLARS/POUNDS/EUROS Grab one from eBay.com or eBay.co.uk (or your usual electronics supplier) for just a couple of bucks! Then burn the image to your Micro SD Card (you can finally use the old 4gb one you have had in your drawers!) – burn the same way you would if a Retropie image – See the link below for more details on how to create a Raspberry Pi image to Micro SD Card.
Once your image is ready on your Micro SD Card, wire up the PIR Detector as per this diagram:
Make sure the power is off whilst doing the connecting! Once connected, power up your Pi, everything will auto load (note, you may need to switch it on and off the very first time it boots up for the PIR to work proper – sounds odd , but true, only ever the first time – sometimes!)
CHANGE THE VIDEO/IMAGE
Herman has supplied an awesome video changer script, which you run on your PC which connects to the Pi and changes the image and picture and reboots it, for this to work you will need to have your Pi plugged into your network , via LAN cable , OR, if your an advanced user you can SSH in and set up your wireless network as per instructions HERE – Remember unlike a PC a Pi will need to be rebooted to actually connect to the network, even if you plug a cable in.
Open up the folder named “SCRIPTS” on your PC, double click one of the many options such as Gent-4 and a script will automatically open and show some text on the screen (hopefully with no errors) which will tell the pi what to show and then it reboots the pi
you can then unplug from your network (if you need to!)
Mr Munster, has released some fantastic updates for this, such as THE CHRISTMAS EDITION and even a guide on how to make your own using your own pictures and even videos, really looking forward to that, as we are already making a frame to make our 32″ TV look like a hanging frame….
